Foraging & Herbal Remedies
Wild plants grow everywhere outside the city: forests, grassland, desert, farmland, swamps, mountains and the coast. Each kind of land has its own plants. They are not marked on any map - you find them by looking. Once picked, a plant grows back somewhere else a while later.
Now and then a plant glows softly. Glowing finds are rare and worth far more.
Before you begin
- Nothing for most plants - just walk up and pick.
- A Shovel for roots and a knife for bark.
Picking
- Walk up to a plant and press E. Young plants give less than full-grown ones.
- Every pick gives foraging XP (level 1-20). Higher levels give more per pick and turn up glowing plants a little more often.
Desert plants won't grow in a forest and swamp plants won't grow on a mountain. If you want one plant in particular, think about where it would grow. Some spots are richer than others - keep an eye out for places where plants cluster.
What to do with them
- Eat them raw. Berries, nuts, prickly pears, mint and dandelions fill you up a little. Some things are better cooked - and the red-and-white toadstool is poison.
- Sell them to the forager, an old man who buys anything wild for cash. His prices change every day and he only buys so much from one person a day.
- Restaurants cook wild dishes - berry tarts, chanterelle soup, mint tea and cactus salad - and buy ingredients through the city supply board.
- Herbal remedies at a herbalist bench (found in pharmacies and the hospital, free to use):
| Remedy | Made from | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Aloe Gel | Aloe | Heals scrapes and burns a little |
| Yarrow Salve | Yarrow | Small heal, takes the edge off pain |
| Chamomile Tea | Chamomile | Calms you down (stress) |
| Willow Bark Tea | Willow bark | Pain relief for a while |
| Echinacea Tincture | Echinacea | Helps you shake off a flu or an infection |
| Sage Bundle | Sage | Burn it and relax (stress) |
- Dye and flavour plants (indigo, red root, saffron, lavender, vanilla, cocoa) and the rare glow moss and ghost orchid are worth good money now, and will matter for custom drugs later.
- A few wild plants feed the drug trade (see Party Drugs) - with the right recipe paper.
