Beta Testing

While staff have Testing mode on, anyone in the city can help test new features. Press F11 to clock in as a beta tester. A window opens on the left with every feature that needs testing.

You earn $100 an hour while you're active and $250 for every test you hand in. Until the city's money system is live, this is saved for you and paid out later.

Testing in the city

  1. Press F11 to clock in. The window opens.
  2. Pick a feature tab at the top, then use Prev test / Next test to choose a test.
  3. Press Start test and do what each step says.
  4. Mark every step Pass, Fail or Skip. A failed step needs a short note: what went wrong, and what you expected.
  5. Press Hand in test when every step is marked. A test with any failed step is handed in as a Fail, and the game takes a screenshot for staff.

Every test is recorded (picture only, no sound) from Start test until you hand it in. You'll see REC in the corner while it runs. Staff and you can watch the video from your result on the test's forum topic. Videos are deleted after 30 days.

  1. F11 or ESC closes the window. A small pill top-left shows you're still clocked in.
  2. Clock out in the window when you're done.

Standing still for 5 minutes counts as AFK and pauses your pay until you move again. Skip test takes a test off your list if you can't do it.

Website claims

Some features are tested by claiming their topic on the forums (Beta Testing board).

  1. Claim the test on the website.
  2. Join the city with Discord open and press F11. The window shows your claim's steps.
  3. A video recording starts by itself and uploads to the website while you test.
  4. Mark each step Pass / Fail / Skip in the window. Your marks are saved straight to your claim.
  5. Press Open claim on website, check your marks and press Submit.

Beta Tester role

When staff accept one of your reports (a Fail they confirm as a real bug, or an approved claim), you get the Beta Testers role. You keep it as long as you hand in at least one report every 7 days.

Good to know

  • Your results show up for staff straight away. Staff review every Fail.
  • A test drops off everyone's list once it has enough passes.
  • Staff can test too, but they don't earn pay.
