Night City Paintball

Paintball matches against other players. Nobody really gets hurt: a hit is a "tag", you never go down for real and EMS is never needed.

Where

The paintball board and its host stand at Vespucci Beach (the crosshair blip on the map). Type /paintball anywhere to mark it.
The area around the board is a safe zone: weapons are put away there.

Joining or hosting

Walk up to the board and press [E].

  • Open lobbies lists every lobby that is waiting. Press Join to get in (you pay the entry fee straight away).
  • Host a lobby: pick a mode, a map, the max players (2-16) and an entry fee ($0-$5,000). The fees make the pot.
  • When everyone is in, the host presses Start match. Everyone has to be near the board and not down.
  • Walk more than 60 m away from the board while waiting and you leave the lobby (fee refunded). Lobbies nobody starts close after 20 minutes (fees refunded).
  • /pbleave leaves your lobby or the match (no refund once the match has started).

Modes

  • Free For All: everyone for themselves. First to 25 tags, or the most tags after 10 minutes.
  • Gun Game: 21 weapons, from pistols up through SMGs, rifles, shotguns and snipers to the knife. Every tag moves you one weapon up. Everyone carries a knife: a knife tag also knocks your victim one weapon down. The first to get a tag with the knife (the 21st weapon) wins.
  • Hopouts: two crews start each round in cars. If you get tagged you are out until the next round. The last crew with someone standing wins the round. First to 3 rounds (best of 5) wins.
  • Capture the Flag: two teams. Take the enemy flag and bring it to your own base while your own flag is home. If the carrier is tagged, the flag drops: the enemy can grab it again, or your team can touch it to send it home (it goes home on its own after 30 s). 3 captures or the most after 12 minutes.

Teams are balanced when the match starts.

In a match

  • You respawn at your team's spawn 3 seconds after a tag (Hopouts: out for the round, you watch from above).
  • After a respawn you are protected for 2 seconds (you look see-through).
  • Stay inside the play area. Leave it and you get a 5-second warning, then you count as tagged.
  • Hold TAB for the scoreboard. Tags show top right.
  • Your own guns stay in your inventory. You only use the paintball guns you are given, and they are taken back at the end.
  • At the end there is a podium with the top 3, and then you are back at the board with the health and armour you came in with.

Prizes

  • Free For All / Gun Game: the winner takes the pot. With 4 or more players it is split 70% / 20% / 10% for the top 3.
  • Team modes: the winning team splits the pot evenly.
  • A draw (or staff ending the match) refunds everyone's fee.
  • Your wins, tags and times out per mode are on the board under Your record.

Maps

Grove Block (urban), Downtown Build Site, Elysian Container Yard and Federal Rooftop. Not every map has every mode: the board only shows the maps that fit the mode you pick. The rooftop has no Hopouts (no room for cars).

Staff

  • /pbplace lobby: moves the board and host NPC to where you stand, facing the way you face.
  • /pbmap list: every map, which modes it can run and how many spawns it has.
  • /pbmap show <id>: draws the play area, spawns (white = FFA, gold / red = teams), car spots (blue) and flags for 60 s.
  • /pbmap new <id> [radius]: a new map centred on you.
  • /pbmap spawn <id> ffa|a|b, /pbmap car <id> a|b, /pbmap flag <id> a|b: add a spawn, a Hopouts car spot or set a flag base where you stand.
  • /pbmap centre <id>, /pbmap radius <id> <m>, /pbmap z <id> <minZ> <maxZ>, /pbmap label <id> <name>, /pbmap clear <id> ffa|a|b|cars.
  • /pbmap delete <id>: deletes a staff-made map, or resets a built-in map to its first version.
  • /pblobbies: lists the lobbies. /pbend <id>: ends one and refunds the fees.
  • Built-in map spots are first guesses: walk each map with /pbmap show before the first event and fix the spawns.
