Character & Lifestyle4 min read

Night City uses one appearance editor for everything to do with your character's look. It opens when you make a new character, at barbers, at tattoo parlors, at outfit changers and in job locker rooms - each place only shows the parts it is allowed to change.

This guide covers the editor itself, changing your look after your character is made, saved outfits and what to do when your look breaks. Making a brand-new character is covered in Character Creation.

  • Hair, beard, eyebrows, eye colour, make-up - change them at a barber, see Barbers.
  • Tattoos - see Tattoos.
  • Clothes - real items you buy in stores and wear from your inventory, see Clothing.
  • Face shape, parents and skin - set when you create the character and locked after that.

Before you begin

  • Nothing - every character can use the editor, barbers, tattoo parlors and outfit changers.
  • Job Locker Rooms only work for people with that job (for example police or EMS).

The editor screen

  1. The panel on the left says APPEARANCE / NIGHT CITY RP. Tabs run along the top (Character, Clothing, Accessories, Tattoos, Outfits) - you only see the tabs the spot you opened allows.
  2. Pick a part from the column of icons. The camera moves to that part of your body.
  3. Click a picture card to try a piece or style. Every change shows on your character straight away. The X card means "nothing" (no hat, no mask...).
  4. Use the Style and Texture steppers (or ← / →) to step through styles.
  5. Press Complete to keep your changes, or Back to throw them all away.

Saved outfits (wardrobe)

You can save up to 30 outfits per character.

  1. Go to an outfit changer spot (several around the city, inside clothing stores) or the wardrobe in your apartment, and press E on Change Outfit.
  2. The Wardrobe opens. Under Save current look, type a name (up to 32 letters) and press Save or Enter.
  3. Under My outfits, press Wear to put a saved outfit on, or Delete to remove it.
  4. Press Done to close.

Outfits only store clothes and accessories - wearing one never changes your face, hair or tattoos.

Job locker rooms

Police, EMS and some other jobs have a Locker Room spot in their building.

  1. Walk onto the spot while you have that job and press E on Locker Room.
  2. Your department's uniforms for your rank show under Work uniforms. Press Wear.
  3. You can also adjust clothes and accessories there and save outfits.
  4. Press Complete to keep the look.

Fixing your look with /refreshskin

Press T and type /refreshskin to load your last saved look again. Use it when:

  1. your body or clothes look invisible or wrong,
  2. your hair or tattoos didn't load,
  3. a job uniform or something else left you in the wrong clothes.

Common problems

  • My changes were gone after relogging - you pressed Back or Esc. Only Complete saves.
  • "Wardrobe full (30 outfits max)" - delete an old outfit under My outfits first.
  • A piece I want has no picture / doesn't show - pieces without a picture are hidden on purpose. Report it with a ticket so it can be added.
  • Exclusive clothes don't show - some pieces are rewards (for example from the battle-pass) and only appear once your character has unlocked them.
  • I want a different face or parents - those are locked after character creation and there is no plastic surgeon in the city right now. If you really need a change, open a support ticket (Support Tickets).
  • Locker Room doesn't open - it only works for people with that job.
