Permits & Court Clerk
The Court clerk desk in the courthouse is open to everyone. Walk up to it and press E at Court clerk - permits, records, bar exam, appeals. The window has four tabs: Permits, Expungement, Bar exam and Appeals.
Everything you file here is decided by a court clerk or a judge - real players. You get a message when they decide, and each tab lists your past applications with their status.
Before you begin
- Bank money for the permit fee - it is taken from your bank when you apply.
- No active warrant for a weapon permit or an expungement.
Applying for a permit
- Clerk → Permits → pick the permit in the list (the fee is shown next to it).
- Fill in the details - the box tells you what the court wants to know (for a weapon permit: why you want it, where you will keep it, any training). Press Apply.
- Wait for the decision. You can only have one open application of each kind.
Weapon permits
- The police evaluate you first: a background check and a range test. Expect an officer to contact you.
- After a passed evaluation the court decides. If approved, you get a Weapon License and the permit is on your record.
Permits
| Permit | Who decides | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon permit | Police evaluation, then the court | Weapon License and a weapon permit on your record |
| Hunting licence | Court clerk | The licence the hunting job checks for |
| Fishing licence | Court clerk | The licence the Fishing job checks for |
| Business licence | Court clerk | A business licence on your record |
| Event permit | Court clerk | Approval for your event (name, date, place, crowd, security) |
| Driving record wipe | A judge | All licence points cleared, a suspension lifted and exam retry waits removed |
If a permit is denied, the fee is refunded to your bank. The driving record wipe is the exception: its fee is not refunded when the judge says no. A wipe does not give back a licence the court revoked - see Licenses.
Expungement
Clerk → Expungement, write why the court should seal your record and press Request expungement. A judge decides. If approved, your past bookings and closed court cases are sealed and the police no longer see them. It is free, but you can't have an active warrant.
Appeals
Clerk → Appeals lists your court cases. A guilty verdict or an accepted plea deal can be appealed within 7 days: press Appeal, write your grounds and press File appeal. A judge rules on it. Your lawyer can also file it for you.
