Guides for every part of life in the city.

Bus Driver (Night City Transit)

Drive Night City's bus routes, pick up passengers at every stop and keep to the timetable. Smooth driving pays more.

How to start

  1. Find the Night City Transit pin on the map (the bus depot downtown, near Integrity Way).
  2. Press E on Marlene, the transit dispatcher.
  3. Pick a route (talk screen or the Operations board), then Start shift.
  4. You change into your work clothes automatically. They stay on until you clock out.
  5. Your bus waits in the bay. You get the keys and it comes full of fuel.

Every run starts and ends at the terminal stop next to the depot.

At a stop

  1. Follow the GPS to the gold marker. The HUD shows NEXT STOP.
  2. Pull in, stop completely, and press E: Open the doors.
  3. Passengers who are getting off leave, and 0 to 4 people waiting at the stop get on.
  4. The doors close by themselves once everyone is seated, and the next stop goes on your GPS.
  • If you drive off before everyone is on, the stop is not paid.
  • You can also press E: Close the doors & depart yourself once the boarding time is up.

Timetable

  • Every stop has a due time. The HUD shows ON TIME 0:42 (time left), GRACE or LATE 12S.
  • Arriving on time pays an on-time bonus at that stop.
  • Your Timetable grace skill gives you 1 extra second per level.
  • If a stop is blocked you can skip it from the Operations board. A skipped stop isn't paid.

Comfort

  • Every run starts at 100% comfort (shown on the HUD).
  • While passengers are aboard, hitting things, braking hard and jumping the bus lower it.
  • Below 40%, passengers may get off complaining.
  • At the terminal, the route bonus = bonus x comfort. A run at 95% or more gets an extra +10% ("smooth ride").

Pay

  • Every stop: stop fee + distance from the last stop + a fare for each paying passenger + the on-time bonus. You see a small toast for each one.
  • Terminal: the route bonus, with a paycheck card that shows your stops, on-time count, comfort and fares.
  • Shift target: 20 stops (+60% for each extra crew member). Every stop past the target pays overtime x1.5.
  • Finish shift at the dispatcher with the target met and the bus back at the depot to get the $250 completion bonus. If the bus isn't back you lose $250 of that bonus.
  • You can't clock out with passengers aboard unless you're back at the depot.
  • Career tier adds +0% to +30% on every paycheck, and VIP adds its bonus too.
  • A steady solo Trainee makes about $900 an hour.

Crew: driver + inspector (max 2)

  • Invite one person from My crew (they press Y). The second person rides along as the Inspector.
  • The inspector checks tickets with E: Check ticket on a passenger, or /busticket for the nearest one, even from a seat.
  • About 1 in 10 NPC passengers is a fare dodger. Catching one pays the inspector a fine bonus, and the dodger is put off at the next stop.
  • An active inspector (checking tickets and riding in the bus) makes every stop pay more for the crew. A rider who does nothing gets no cut (anti-leech).
  • You can swap who drives at any time.

Real players can ride

Anyone who gets on a working Night City Transit bus as a passenger is asked for the $5 fare (press Y, or /busfare). The fare goes straight to the driver.
