Taxi Driver: Downtown Cab Co.

Drive a cab around Night City. Pick up people at the kerb, take them where they want to go, and get paid by the meter. Smooth rides earn bigger tips.

Getting started

  • Go to the Downtown Cab Co. blip (the old cab depot lot east of downtown) and press E on Sal, the dispatcher.
  • You need a driving licence.
  • Choose Start shift. A taxi with a CAB plate spawns in the bay. You get the keys, a full tank and your work clothes. The clothes stay on until you clock out.

How a fare works

  1. The meter is on as soon as your shift starts. A fare waits at a kerb 300-900 m away (yellow person blip with GPS).
  2. Honk when you get close, or stop right beside them. They walk over and get in the back.
  3. Drive to the destination (gold flag blip) and stop in the gold marker. Press E: Drop off the fare.
  4. You are paid: $14 base + $20 per mile driven with the fare aboard, plus a tip from your ride rating.
  5. The next fare comes through 8-20 seconds later.

The HUD shows METER $x | 2.3 mi while a fare is aboard, plus the address and your live rating.

Ride rating (1-5 stars = 0-40% tip)

Every ride starts at 5 stars. Your fare marks you down for:

  • Hard braking
  • Crashing into things
  • Speeding 30+ mph over the limit (40 mph in town, 55 on highways, 70 on freeways)
  • Arriving late on a long detour

Miles are paid up to about 1.8x the straight-line distance, so going round the block does not pay extra. Drive normally and you will be fine.

Player fares (/calltaxi)

  • Any player can type /calltaxi to request a cab where they stand. /canceltaxi cancels it.
  • Drivers on shift get a dispatch notification. Accept the call from the job board (Operations, Dispatch calls) or with /taxiaccept [call id]. With no id you get the oldest call. In the cab, I accepts the oldest call.
  • The caller sees your cab on their map. When they get in, their meter starts: $8 + $12 per mile, max $400. It shows on their screen.
  • When they get out, the meter is charged to their bank (cash covers any shortfall) and the money goes to the driver's bank. You can also end the ride from the job board.
  • The crew also gets a small job bonus for player rides (once per passenger every 10 minutes, rides of 0.5 mi or more).

Pay, target and tiers

  • Shift target: 10 fares (+60% for each extra crew member). Fares after the target pay x1.5 overtime.
  • Finish shift at the dispatcher with the cab back at the depot to get the $200 completion bonus.
  • Career tiers: Trainee Cabbie, Cab Driver (+5%), Senior Cabbie (+10%), Night Driver (+15%), Shift Supervisor (+20%), Cab Co. Manager (+30%).
  • Level skills: Extra tips (+1% per level) and Forgiving passengers (fewer stars lost, 1.5% per level).

Rewards shop (Cab Points)

  • Coffee, Energy Drink, Water
  • Air Freshener: keep it on you while driving. Every ride rating +5%.
  • Rooftop Light (Cab Driver tier): the leader keeps it on them and your cab gets gold trim and a gold underglow.
  • Regular Customers (Night Driver tier): keep the book on you and long out-of-town fares come up far more often.
  • Outfit looks: Cab Co. Vest, Night Driver Jacket, Chauffeur Suit.

Tips

  • Honk from up to 35 m away so the fare starts walking before you stop.
  • Long fares (Sandy Shores, Paleto Bay, Chumash...) have the biggest meters. They come up more with the Regular Customers book.
  • /taxiboard opens the job board anywhere while you are on shift.

Staff

  • /taxiplace dispatcher or /taxiplace bay (stand there) moves the dispatcher or the cab bay. /taxiplaces shows them.
  • /taxiaddplace [long] <name> adds a fare address where you stand (long = used only as a long-fare destination). /taxiplacelist shows every address on the map for 2 minutes. /taxidelplace <n> removes a staff-added address.
  • /taxilevel, /taxipoints, /taxicrews, /taxiendshift <crew id>, /taxioutfit save|reset <look>. F9 has the Civilian jobs tab.
