Gym & Fitness
Train Stamina, Strength and Lung capacity at the city gyms, use supplements and bet on fight nights.
Your character has three fitness stats that run from 0 to 100. You raise them by working out at a gym, and they make a real difference in the city.
| Stat | Trained by | What it gives you at 100 |
|---|---|---|
| Stamina | Treadmill, exercise bike, rowing, sit-ups | Sprint about twice as long, and Parkour moves cost up to 25% less |
| Strength | Bench press, squats, curls, pull-ups, punching bag, push-ups | Carry a downed person about twice as long, +10 kg pocket space, harder punches, job actions like mining up to 20% faster |
| Lung capacity | Swimming laps | About 50% longer underwater |
Everything scales up smoothly, so even a few levels help. Type /gym at any time to see your stats, how much more you can gain today and any supplement you have running.
Before you begin
- A membership for the gym you train at (Day, Week or Month pass), bought at its front desk.
- Muscle Sands on Vespucci Beach is free, but it only gives half gains and only has the bench, pull-up bar and dumbbells.
- Some food and water in you. Every set costs a little hunger and thirst, and you can't train when you're too hungry or thirsty.
Finding a gym
Look for the dumbbell blips on the map.
| Gym | Area | Membership |
|---|---|---|
| Pump & Run Gym | Rockford Hills | Needed |
| Paleto Bay Gym | Paleto Bay | Needed |
| La Mesa Strength & Conditioning | La Mesa | Needed |
| Muscle Sands | Vespucci Beach | Free (half gains, bench / pull-up / dumbbells only) |
A paid gym can be owned by a player business that sets its own prices. When nobody owns it, an NPC receptionist runs the desk.
Getting a membership
- Walk up to the receptionist at the front desk and press E at Front desk: memberships & supplements.
- Pick a Day, Week or Month pass and pay with cash or card.
- You get a
Gym Membership Card (use it to show your card) and a welcome mail on your phone.
Buying again at the same gym adds time instead of replacing it. A membership only works at the gym you bought it at.
If a gym has no front desk, type /gymdesk while you are inside it to open the desk anyway.
Working out
There's no third eye in gyms. Walk up to a machine and a floating [E] text shows. If there are several options, use ← / → to switch, then press E. Press X to stop at any time.
A workout panel shows at the bottom right with your progress, the set and your Energy. Finish a set and a green "+0.x <stat>" floats up.
- Treadmill (Stamina) - press W / S to pick Walk, Jog, Run or Sprint (faster speeds need some stamina first). Tap A, D, A, D... at a steady rhythm to keep the Pace bar up. If it runs empty you fall off the back.
- Exercise bike (Stamina) - tap A / D fast to keep your Cadence in the green. W / S change the resistance (harder levels need some stamina).
- Rowing machine (Stamina, a bit of Strength) - press Space each time the white marker passes the green zone.
- Bench press, squats, curls, pull-ups (Strength) - W / S pick a weight (heavier needs more strength but gives more). Hold Space to push the weight up; let go halfway and it sinks back.
- Punching bag (Strength, a bit of Stamina) - a big arrow shows on the panel. Press the matching arrow key quickly.
- Mats (push-ups, sit-ups) - pick the exercise with ← / →, then hit Space while the marker is in the yellow zone.
- Swimming (Lung capacity) - at Muscle Sands, swim into the sea next to the beach gym and press E to swim laps. Stay underwater to fill the dots.
Limits
- Energy drains as you train. When it's empty you have to rest for a moment. A high Stamina stat makes it drain slower.
- Daily limit: each stat can only grow about 8 levels a day. After that, sets still play but give "no gains" - switch to another stat.
- Fading: if you don't train for a few days, your stats slowly drop.
- One person per machine.
Supplements
Sold at the gym front desk. Use one before you train.
| Supplement | Effect |
|---|---|
| Strength gains +25% for an hour (fills you up a bit) | |
| Every stat trains 25% faster for 45 minutes | |
| Stamina and lung gains +25% for an hour |
Personal trainers
At a player-owned gym, an on-duty Trainer standing close to you gives about 25% more gains (shown as "trainer bonus").
Fight nights
Gyms with a boxing ring host fights.
- Two fighters stand in the ring and press E → Sign up to fight.
- Once there are two, everyone nearby sees "A vs B - bets are open" and a board over the ring.
- Spectators stand at the ring, use ← / → to pick Place a bet, press E, then pick a fighter and an amount.
- After a minute the fight starts: both fighters at full health, weapons blocked.
- The fight ends on a knockout. Nobody goes to hospital. Stepping out of the ring loses the fight, and a fight that runs too long is a draw with bets refunded.
- People who backed the winner get paid out of the pot. The gym keeps a small cut.
At an owned gym, the owner decides when the ring is open for fights.
Some people look for shortcuts to get big fast. They work - but they come with side effects, and police and EMS carry drug test kits that can find them for a while afterwards. Ask around the gym crowd if you're curious.
Costs & rewards
| Pass | NPC-run price |
|---|---|
| Day | $150 |
| Week | $750 |
| Month | $2,500 |
- Owned gyms set their own prices (inside city limits).
- VIP members get 10-25% off passes automatically, depending on tier - see VIP Memberships.
- Supplements cost a few dollars at NPC-run desks (about $25-60).
- Fight night bets run from $50 to $5,000.
- Going from 0 to 100 in a stat takes about two weeks of regular training.
Common problems
- "No gains" after a set - you hit today's limit for that stat. Train a different stat or come back tomorrow.
- The machine won't start - you need a membership for this gym, or someone else is already on it.
- Can't pick a heavier weight or faster speed - it needs a higher stat. Use a lighter setting until you level up.
- You're too hungry or thirsty to train - eat and drink something, then try again.
- You fell off the treadmill - your Pace bar ran empty. Pick a slower speed and keep a steady A / D rhythm.
- Your stats went down - you didn't train for a few days. A couple of sessions brings them back.
Thanks! Staff will look at it.
