Police Work
Join the department, clock in, cuff and book suspects, use the F7 MDT, collect evidence, run traffic, pursuits and K9.
The police department is player-run, with its own chief, ranks, armory, vehicles and budget. As an officer you answer calls, stop crime, collect evidence and bring suspects in, from a speeding ticket to a full booking with mugshot, charges and a prison sentence.
Your rank decides what you may do. Divisions unlock extra gear and duties: SWAT (heavy weapons, storm ram, heavy armour), K9 (the police dog) and Air (the helicopter). The chief grants them.
Want to know what happens to the person you arrest? Read getting-arrested.
Before you begin
- Being hired by a police department (see Joining below).
- Being on duty for almost every police tool.
- The standard kit, checked out from the armory:
| Item | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Cuffing and uncuffing (kept, not used up) | |
| Quick restraints, used up | |
| Your MDT. It has a battery | |
| Swap in a full battery | |
| Department radio | |
| Finding evidence on the ground | |
| Bagging evidence |
Joining the department
- Go to the police station front desk, press E → Apply. Your application goes to the department Inbox.
- The chief (or someone with hiring rights) offers you the job. New officers usually start as a Cadet.
- A Field Training Officer ticks off your academy modules. Two tick themselves when you pass them:
- Firing range: E → Firing range qualification. Hit at least 70% of 15 targets in 45 seconds.
- Driving course: E → Start the driving course. Drive every checkpoint before the timer runs out. Each missed checkpoint adds time.
Clocking in and gear
- At the station duty spot press E → Clock in.
- Wardrobe: uniforms saved for your rank.
- Stash: your personal locker and the storage rooms your rank may use.
- Armory: check out pistols, the taser, nightstick, ammo and more. Guns are registered to you by serial, and every take and return is logged.
On duty you get alerts and the Police section in your F1 radial menu:
| Section | Options |
|---|---|
| Panic 10-99 | Every officer gets a loud alert with your position (also /panic) |

| Search | Pat down, Full search / seize, Check ID |
| Pursuit | Call pursuit, End pursuit, Authorise PIT, Authorise roadblocks / spikes |

Cuffing, escorting and searching
- You can only cuff someone who is not fighting back: hands up (X), downed, tased or otherwise subdued, or approached from behind.
- Behind the back: they can only walk slowly. In front: they can walk and ride as a passenger, but not sprint, fight or drive. Cuffing from the front gives them a skill check to break free.
- Press G next to a cuffed or downed person to escort them. G again lets go.
- Next to an unlocked car: Move → Put in vehicle or Take out of vehicle.
- Pat down finds weapons and bulky items. Full search / seize shows the whole inventory and lets you take items.
Booking a suspect
- Escort the cuffed suspect onto the station booking spot and let go.
- Press E → Book the suspect on this spot.
- Take the mugshot (front and side) and their prints.
- Pick the charges from the penal code. Fines, months and licence points add up by themselves.
- Sort their property: Evidence (illegal items, unregistered weapons), Property (returned on release) or Keep (stays in their pockets).
- Pick the outcome: Cited and released, Holding cell (minutes in a station cell) or Prison (each month is one minute).
- Finish. The fine goes to the department budget and any active arrest warrants are served.
The MDT
Press F7 (or /mdt) on duty. At a station computer spot, E opens it without using battery.
| Page | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Dispatch | Calls, the live map and units. Attach to a call to set GPS and go en route |
| People | Citizen lookup: mugshot, licences, priors, flags, vehicles. Request warrants, do weapon permit evaluations |
| Vehicles | Plate lookup and owner. Mark a car stolen |
| Reports | Write, save and submit. A Sergeant or higher approves them |
| Warrants / BOLOs | Arrest, search and subpoena warrants. Be-on-the-lookout notices (BOLO plates trigger plate readers) |
| Citations / Impounds | Every ticket written and every towed car |
| Evidence & cases | Cases, evidence and scene photos |
| CCTV | Security cameras |
| Permit evaluations | Weapon permit applicants waiting for a police check |
| Penal code | Every charge with fine, months and points |
The tablet drains while the MDT is open and slowly while you are on duty. At 0% it won't open. Swap in a Tablet Battery or press E at a station charger → Charge my tablet.
Warrants go to a judge for approval (see doj). If no judge is on duty, a supervisor can approve them. Approved warrants last a week.
Evidence and the crime lab
- Hold your flashlight and aim at the ground. Casings, bullet fragments and blood show with a label and their age. Evidence fades, faster in rain.
- Walk up and press E → Bag it (needs an empty evidence bag).
- Use Investigate → Dust vehicle for prints on a car. Gloves leave no prints.
- At the station lab, press E → Crime lab. A casing names the gun's serial and holder. Blood and prints give a match if that person was booked before.
- Store bags in the evidence locker under a case number. Every check-out is logged.
- Use the
Evidence Camera for scene photos and attach them to a case.
Surveillance tools: GPS Tracker (track a car for a couple of hours),
Ankle Monitor (track a person),
Police Drone (a flying camera with thermal), bait cars and VIN checks (the real plate behind a fake one).
Traffic and pursuits
- Radar and plate readers: in a police car press F5. Stolen, BOLO or flagged plates give a hit. The
Radar Gun works on foot.
- NPC traffic stop: lights on behind a local driver, Traffic → Pull over, then E at the driver door → Talk to the driver. Some are clean, some are not, and some flee.
- Write citation: they get an invoice on their phone.
- Impound vehicle: set a fee and a hold time. A mechanic tows it, or the city tow comes if nobody takes the job.
- Pursuits: Call pursuit shares the car's live position. In a patrol car, J fires a GPS dart at the car ahead. Lay a
Spike Strip from your inventory.
- Helicopter (Air division): a passenger presses E for the FLIR camera and G for the spotlight.
Less-lethal and armour
| Item | How it works |
|---|---|
| One cartridge per shot. A tased person can be cuffed for a few seconds | |
| Loads a few beanbag rounds into the pump shotgun. The target falls and can be cuffed | |
| Short range, a few uses. Blurs their screen and makes them cuffable | |
| A hit staggers them and counts as subdued | |
| Adds armour to your vest | |
| No sprinting, only pistol or taser while held |
Every taser and beanbag use is logged for Internal Affairs.
K9 and vehicles
With the K9 division, K9 → Deploy brings out your dog. It can sniff people and vehicles (it alerts on drugs and marked bills) and apprehend a fleeing suspect. Take cars at the station garage, helicopters at the helipad and boats at the dock. Some vehicles need a minimum rank.
Costs & rewards
- You are paid while on duty, by your rank, from the department budget.
- Fines, citations and impound release fees go into the department budget.
- Bagging drugs earns a seizure bonus (see Drug Enforcement).
Common problems
- I can't cuff someone - they must have hands up, be downed or subdued, or you must come from behind.
- "Uncuff" doesn't work - you need your
Handcuffs on you.
- The MDT won't open - you're off duty or the tablet battery is empty. Charge it or use a station computer.
- Put in vehicle fails - the car is locked or has no free back seat.
- I can't approve my own report - a Sergeant or higher has to approve it.
- The crime lab gives no name - blood and prints only match people who were booked before.
Thanks! Staff will look at it.
