Ketamine
The second drug, still being built. Find hidden mines, dig out quartz and drain chemical drums - without getting buried.
Ketamine is being added in stages. Today you can gather the raw ingredients:
Quartz Rock - dug out of rocks,
Ether and
Hydrochloric Acid - drained from chemical drums.
All three come from hidden mines out in the wild. There is no cook table yet and no finished ketamine to use or sell - those parts come in a later update. Until then, the ingredients are something to stockpile, trade or sell to people planning ahead.
A hidden mine is an old dig off the roads: a cluster of ore rocks with a couple of chemical drums. Only a couple are open at a time, at random spots the city picks by itself. They are invisible from far away and only appear once you get fairly close.
Before you begin
- A
Pickaxe - see Mining if you have never mined.
Chemical Gloves to drain the drums - hardware store, now and then in bins.
- Recommended:
Hard Hat (hardware store, sometimes bins) and
Head Lamp (hardware store).
- A
Darkweb Tablet to read the tips (see The Darkweb).
Finding a mine
- Carry a
Darkweb Tablet. New mines are tipped by the handle deepvein.
- Tips start vague (the area and the kind of land) and get sharper the longer nobody finds the mine.
- The Tablet signal bars help on the last stretch.
- Once someone starts mining there, deepvein says so and the tips stop.
There is also an old miner at the Davis Quartz quarry, smoking near the foreman. Press E on Talk to the old miner and he sells rumours about open mines - from a vague area for the price of a drink up to the exact spot. The better rumours cost more and need a higher mining level, and he wants a break between rumours. Levelling up at the quarry pays off twice.
Mining the rocks
- Mine rocks work like the quarry rocks - same pickaxe tiers, timing bar and mining XP.
- Mines hold a mix of normal ores too, so you also get regular mining loot.
- A rock with quartz inside shows "· quartz" at the end of its name. Each piece you break off can drop a Quartz Rock.
- When the quartz runs out the tag disappears. Leave the rock a little while and the quartz grows back.
- Broken rocks grow back after a few minutes.
Quartz isn't only in hidden mines - some rocks at the big public quarry carry it too, less reliably. Watch the rock names.
Draining the drums
- Each mine has a red ether drum and a blue acid drum.
- Wear
Chemical Gloves (carry them) and press E on Drain the ether drum or Drain the acid drum.
- You get a little
Ether or
Hydrochloric Acid.
- A drained drum shows (empty) and fills again after a while.
Cave-ins
- Every piece you break off has a chance to bring the ceiling down: the screen shakes, you get knocked over and take damage.
- A
Hard Hat makes cave-ins rarer and about half as painful. A
Head Lamp lights where you look and helps you spot cracks (fewer cave-ins). Just carry them.
- Each mine only holds so much. When it's nearly worked out the ground rumbles. Keep digging and the whole mine collapses, hitting everyone inside hard, and a new mine opens elsewhere.
Ether and hydrochloric acid very rarely turn up in hospital bins, construction skips and dock dumpsters - but the drums are the real source.
Costs & rewards
- Quartz, ether and acid to stockpile or trade, plus normal ore and mining XP.
- The old miner's rumours cost money - more for better directions.
Common problems
- "That stuff eats through skin - you need chemical gloves" - carry
Chemical Gloves.
- The drum says (empty) - someone drained it. Come back later.
- No "· quartz" on any rock - the quartz is used up for now. It grows back.
- The old miner won't give the good rumours - your mining level is too low, or he wants a break.
- The old miner says there's nothing worth digging - no mine is open right now. He takes no money.
- I keep getting knocked down - bring a hard hat and head lamp, and leave when you hear the rumbling.
Thanks! Staff will look at it.
