Recycling - Night City Recycling Centre

Sort the city's junk, bale it and ship it. The centre is in the La Mesa industrial yard (look for the gold Night City Recycling pin on the map).

How to start

  1. Walk up to Dex, the yard foreman and press E.
  2. Pick Start shift. You change into the work clothes (they stay on until you clock out).
  3. Want a crew? Pick Make a crew and invite people standing with you (they press Y). Up to 6.

The sorting line

  • A mixed load is tipped into the skip at the sorting line. The HUD shows LINE 9/16 (items left) and STRIKES 0/3.
  • E at the line = grab one item. Its name shows on the HUD with the bin it belongs in.
  • Walk it to the matching coloured bin and press E:
  • Paper & card (blue) · Plastics (yellow) · Glass (green) · Metal (grey) · E-waste (purple) · Hazardous (red drum)
  • Coloured markers float above the bins while you carry something; the right one is bigger.
  • Unlabelled items (taped-up shoebox, crushed lump, unlabelled bottle, grimy bundle) could be one of a few types. Press E at the line to inspect it first, or guess.
  • Wrong bin = contamination. You get a strike, the item is lost and that bin's next bale is worth 10% less. 3 strikes on one load = no clean load bonus.
  • Changed your mind? E at the line puts the item back. /recyclingdrop puts down whatever you hold.
  • Falling over, swimming or getting in a car drops what you carry (it goes back where it came from). You cannot sprint with a bale or a bag.

Baler and shipping (this is where you get paid)

  • E at the baler shows every bin. Pick one with at least 4 items: it bales up to 20 items.
  • E at the bale output to lift a bale, carry it (slowly) to the outbound pallet, E to ship it = paycheck.
  • Bale value = items x $2 x material value (metal x1.3, glass x1.1, e-waste x1.6, hazardous x1.5) x cleanliness.
  • A bin holds 30 items. A full bin stops the line for that material until someone bales it.
  • Before you clock out, bale and ship everything (small leftovers under 4 items are scrapped).

Bonuses

  • Clean load bonus: finish a load with fewer strikes than the limit = $12 per worker + 1 Green Point.
  • Sorting streak: every 10 correct sorts in a row (each within 15 s) = $10 + 1 Green Point.
  • Rare finds: sometimes there is something in the junk: scratch cards, a lost wallet, a broken phone, circuit boards, batteries, wire.
  • Shift target: 150 units (+60% per extra crew member). Past it everything pays overtime (x1.5). Finish with the target met = $200 completion bonus.

Curbside runs (Baler Operator tier and up)

  • The crew leader asks the foreman for Take a curbside route (or presses it on the Operations board). A route van appears in the bay.
  • Drive to the stops on your GPS (6 stops, 9 at Route Collector). Park the van close, E at the recycling bin to grab a blue bag, walk it to the back of the van and press E.
  • Back at the centre, park at the unloading spot and E to unload: $9 per bag, $60 per worker when every stop was emptied, and the bags go onto the sorting line (3 items each).
  • If the van is destroyed or lost the run is over.

Buy-back counter (anyone, no shift)

  • Lou at the counter buys recyclables for cash: plastic, glass, rubber, cans, bottles, scrap metal, copper, wire, tech scrap, circuit boards, broken phones, car batteries and more.
  • Prices change every day. Ask Lou for Today's prices.
  • Lou pays each character up to $3,000 a day.

Green Points shop (foreman → Rewards shop)

  • Water, coffee, energy drinks
  • Heavy-Duty Gloves: grab, drop, inspect and bale 30% faster (keep them in your pockets; the same gloves Sanitation uses)
  • Rubber Work Apron: no chemical splashes from hazardous waste (without it, hazardous items can splash you)
  • Magnet Tool: unlabelled metal shows itself as soon as you grab it, and you know when it is not metal
  • Flashlight, and work looks: Navy Coveralls, Orange Hi-Vis, Line Supervisor Jacket, Plant Manager Coat

Tips

  • Inspect unlabelled items. One strike costs the bale 10% and three cost the whole load bonus.
  • In a crew, give one person the baler and shipping and let the rest sort, so the bins never fill up.
  • Metal and e-waste bales pay the most. A magnet makes the "crushed lump" free money.

Staff

  • /recyclingplace <key>: move an NPC or place to where you stand. Keys: foreman, buyer, line, bin_paper, bin_plastic, bin_glass, bin_metal, bin_ewaste, bin_hazard, baler, output, outbound, bay, unload. /recyclingplaces shows them all on the map.
  • /recyclingaddstop [name]: add a curbside stop where you stand. /recyclingstops: count + show all stops for 2 minutes. /recyclingclearstops: remove the staff-added stops.
  • /recyclinglevel <id|citizenid> <level>, /recyclingpoints <id|citizenid> <+/-n>, /recyclingcrews, /recyclingendshift <crew>, /recyclingoutfit save|reset <look>.
