Ore Processing

Sieve, wash and sort raw ore at the quarry yard, smelt it at the foundry, cut gems and sell it all.

Jobs & Businesses5 min read

Raw ore from the quarry is dirty. Before the foundry will take it, it goes through three work tables at the quarry's Ore Processing yard, then into the furnace at the Cypress Foundry in the city. After that you sell at the LS Metals Exchange or keep the metal for crafting.

This chain works for copper, iron, silver and gold. Stone and coal skip the tables - sell them as they are, and keep coal as furnace fuel. Every step pays more than the one before, so cleaner ore sells for more.

Before you begin

  • Ore from the quarry - see Mining.
  • Coal for the furnace.
  • A mining level for the better foundry recipes (see below).
  • Cash for the Gem Cutter's fee if you cut gems.

The processing yard

  1. Set a waypoint on the Ore Processing blip in the Davis Quartz quarry. There are three tables side by side.
  2. Use your third eye (hold Left Alt) on a table. It only offers the ore it takes, for example Copper Ore (up to 10). The what goes in? option tells you what the table takes and which comes next.
  3. Ore Sieve: pick an ore. You shake up to 10 at a time. Copper Ore → Sifted Copper Ore.
  4. Wash Trough: rinse the sifted ore. Sifted Copper Ore → Washed Copper Ore.
  5. Sorting Table: pick through it by hand (a little slower). Washed Copper Ore → Sorted Copper Ore. Now and then you pick out a lump of Stone, and sometimes find a Silver Nugget (silver ore), a Gold Nugget (gold ore) or a rare uncut gem.

Work in batches of 10: sieve 10, wash 10, sort 10, repeat. Park a wheelbarrow or the quarry truck by the tables to save walking.

Smelting at the Cypress Foundry

  1. Set a waypoint on the Cypress Foundry blip (Cypress Flats) and press E at the worker.
  2. Every recipe shows with pictures and counts - green means you have enough.
  3. Pick a recipe and how many. The batch goes into the furnace and a timer runs (one batch at a time).
  4. Press Collect when it is done. You can cancel a running batch to get your materials back.

A foundry gold bar is stamped: hover it to see its serial, assay, cast date and your name. Only stamped bars sell legally.

Selling at the LS Metals Exchange

  1. The exchange is right next to the foundry (map blip). Press E at the buyer.
  2. You see everything you carry that he buys, with today's price. Sell some or all - you are paid in cash.
  3. He buys raw, sifted, washed and sorted ore, stone, coal, copper, iron, steel, silver nuggets and bars, refined gold, and stamped gold bars only.
4

Gem Cutter

  1. The Gem Cutter stands at the jewellery store in the city (map blip). Press E.
  2. Cutting tab: cut up to 10 stones for a fee each, wait for the timer, then Collect. Uncut Emerald → Emerald, Uncut Ruby → Ruby, Uncut Sapphire → Sapphire, Uncut Diamond → Diamond.
  3. Sell gems buys uncut and cut stones for cash.

Costs & rewards

  • Every load at a yard table and every smelt gives a little mining XP.
  • Prices move: selling a lot of one thing pushes its price down (the buyer shows how far), and it slowly recovers when people stop. Check today's prices in /mining → Prices.
  • Base prices rise with each step, for example raw copper ore around $18, sorted copper ore around $28 and a copper ingot around $80. A stamped gold bar is the top item at the exchange.
  • Cutting fees: emerald $120, sapphire $150, ruby $160, diamond $400. A cut stone sells for far more than the fee, so cutting almost always pays.

If copper is crashed, sell iron or hold the copper for a day. Spreading sales over different metals pays more than dumping one stack.

Common problems

  • A table shows no ore options - it only takes the step before it. Sieve first, then wash, then sort.
  • Your pockets filled up while a load finished - nothing is lost. Make room, then third eye any table → Pick up left-over ore.
  • Cancelled a load - you get all the ore back.
  • "Needs mining level X" at the foundry - that recipe is locked until you level up mining.
  • "Stamped bars only" - the exchange won't buy plain gold bars. Only foundry-stamped bars sell legally.
  • Prices look low - too much of that item was sold recently. Wait a while or sell something else.
