The HUD
What every part of the Night City HUD means - status icons, postal bar, money panel, vehicle dashboard - and how to change it.
The HUD shows your character's needs, where you are, your money and - in a vehicle - a full dashboard. Most of it hides itself when it isn't needed, and you can change how it behaves with /hudsettings.
Before you begin
Nothing - every character has the HUD.
Bottom left: location bar
Above the minimap you'll find:
- Compass - the direction you're facing and the exact degrees.
- Street - the street you're on, the nearest cross street and the area name.
- POSTAL - the nearest postal code and how far away it is. Use it to tell people where you are. See Map & Postals.
Bottom left: status icons
| Icon | What it means |
|---|---|
| Health | Turns red when low; shows a different icon when you're down |
| Armour | Only shown while you wear armour |
| Hunger | Drops over time - eat food. Warns when low |
| Thirst | Drops over time - drink. Warns when low |
| Stress | Only shown when you have stress |
| Stamina | Only shown while you're tired from running |
| Oxygen | Only shown under water |
| Voice | How far your voice carries; lights up while you talk |
| Radio | Your radio channel number; lights up while you transmit - see radio |
| Armed | Shows while you hold a gun |
Top right: info panel
- Your server ID and how many players are online.
- Your job with a duty light.
- Your faction and rank, with a crown if you're the leader.
- Your cash and bank - money in or out pops up next to them for a moment.
Vehicle dashboard
- Get in a vehicle and the dashboard appears.
- Read speed and the fuel and engine bars. A pager beeps when fuel gets low.
- Watch the indicator lights: seatbelt (B), harness, cruise (Y), headlights, nitrous and altitude in aircraft.
- Watch the warning lights for worn parts (check engine, brakes, clutch / gearbox, tyres, suspension, engine temperature, battery) and the odometer on cars that track mileage. See Fuel & Repairs.
Stress
Stress goes up when you shoot (a chance with every shot) or drive very fast - sooner without a seatbelt. At high stress your screen blurs now and then. Police and EMS don't gain stress. Calm down in roleplay to bring it back down.
Changing the HUD
- Type
/hudsettingsin chat. - Toggle the options you want:
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Minimap on foot | Keep the minimap up while walking |
| Always show all stats | Don't hide armour / stress / stamina when they're fine |
| Speed in MPH | Off = KM/H |
| Cinematic mode | Letterbox bars and the whole HUD hidden - great for screenshots and videos |
Your settings are saved on your PC and stay after you relog.
Lining up the map frame
If the neon frame around the minimap sits a little off, type /hudframe:
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
| Arrow keys | Move the frame |
| SHIFT + arrows | Resize it |
| CTRL | Bigger steps |
| R | Reset |
| ENTER | Save |
| ESC | Cancel |
/cash and /bank show your balance in chat too.
Common problems
- The HUD vanished - check that Cinematic mode is off in
/hudsettings. Some menus and scenes hide the HUD while they're open. - The frame doesn't fit my minimap - use
/hudframe. Screen size and safe-zone settings move the minimap a little. - Hunger and thirst keep dropping - that's normal. Buy food and drinks at a 24/7 store and keep some in your inventory.
- My armour or stress icon is missing - they hide when fine. Turn on Always show all stats.
- My speed shows the wrong unit - toggle Speed in MPH in
/hudsettings.
Thanks! Staff will look at it.
