Beach Contraband

Packages, rusty pistols, stolen jewelry and old shells wash up under the sand - and only the dark web will buy them.

Drugs & Crime3 min read

While you are Metal Detecting you sometimes dig up something that was hidden on purpose. These are illegal finds:

FindWhat it is
Pouch of JewelryA bag of stolen jewelry with a serial on the police stolen-property register
Washed-up PackageA sealed package that washed up. Nobody asks what's inside
Rusty Buried PistolAn old buried gun
Unexploded ShellA rusty old shell that never went off. Dangerous

The Antique Buyer refuses them - they don't even show in his list. You sell them anonymously on the dark web instead.

Before you begin

1

Digging them up

  1. Detect as normal. On a high-level detector illegal finds show as Unknown - you know it's something odd before you dig.
  2. They sit at different depths, so bigger detectors find more of them.
  3. Each illegal find has a chance that someone calls it in anonymously. Police get an alert with a big search circle - never your name. The shell is always reported.

Unexploded shells can go off. Sprint or take a fall while carrying one and there's a chance you hear a click. The shell is gone, you are hurt and the explosion gets reported. Walk gently.

Selling on the dark web

  1. Type /dwsell. The Dark Web Market opens with your handle and the illegal finds you carry, each with a price range.
  2. Press List. Your listing goes out on the dark web chat.
  3. Wait a little. A buyer answers with a price, a red Dead drop blip appears and a GPS route is set.
  4. Go to the drop and press E on Leave the package. The item leaves your pockets.
  5. A few minutes later "Dark web sale paid" - the cash is in your pocket.

Dig on quiet beaches at quiet times - if you're the only person on the beach with a shovel, a search circle is enough. Don't carry finds longer than you need to, and look around a drop before you walk up to it. If it feels watched, it probably is.

Costs & rewards

  • Cash from dark web buyers, paid a few minutes after you make the drop.
  • Prices show as a range in the Dark Web Market.

Common problems

  • The Antique Buyer won't take it - he never buys illegal finds. Use /dwsell.
  • /dwsell won't open - you need a Darkweb Tablet in your pockets.
  • The deal fell through - you didn't make the drop in time.
  • Police showed up at the drop - someone sometimes reports a "suspicious drop". They can't see your handle, but they can see who is standing there.
  • Police know the jewelry is stolen - they can run its serial and see who it was taken from.
