Garbage Collector

Take a garbage truck from the Davis depot, empty bins alone or with a crew of up to 4, and get paid per bin.

Jobs & Businesses4 min read

The city pays you to empty its bins. Start a route at the Sanitation depot in Davis, drive the garbage truck to the neighbourhood you're given, empty bins into the truck, then bring the truck back to get paid.

It works solo, but it is faster with a crew of up to 4 sharing one truck. Every route also gives you trash bags to sort at the recycling plant, and you level up your Sanitation skill for longer routes and bigger bonuses.

Before you begin

Nothing - every new character can do this. No sign-up and no items needed; the truck is provided.

1

Starting a route

  1. Open the map and set a waypoint on the Sanitation depot in Davis.
  2. Walk up to the depot worker, press E and pick Start a garbage route.
  3. A garbage truck appears in the truck bay and you get the keys.
  4. Your route area shows as a circle on the map, and a counter on screen tracks your bins.
2

Emptying bins

  1. Drive to your area. Only bins inside your route circle count.
  2. Walk up to a dumpster or trash can, press E and pick Empty into the truck. You bag the trash and carry the bag.
  3. Walk to the back of the truck and press E Throw the bag in. The counter goes up.
  4. Repeat until you see "Route done - drive the truck back to the depot to get paid".

You carry one bag at a time, and each bin counts once per route.

Park the truck in the middle of a block so every walk from a bin to the back of the truck is short.

Getting paid

  1. Drive the truck back to the depot.
  2. Talk to the worker and pick Hand in the route (get paid).
  3. Pay goes to your bank, and you get some Trash Bags for the recycling plant.
  4. To stop early, hand in with fewer bins (no bonus) or pick Quit the route.
4

Working as a crew

  1. One player starts a route at the depot.
  2. Everyone else talks to the depot worker before the first bin is emptied, picks Join a crew and picks the leader's name.
  3. Everyone gets truck keys and sees the same counter. Empty bins into the same truck.
  4. When the route is handed in, the pay is split evenly and everyone gets trash bags and XP.
5

Checking your level

Type /binstats (or pick Sanitation level at the depot) to see your Sanitation level and routes done. It also shows your Dumpster Diver level.

Costs & rewards

  • $25 per bin emptied, paid to your bank.
  • A route bonus for a full route with the truck back at the depot: from $250 at Sanitation level 1 up to $1,500 at level 10.
  • Routes get longer as you level: 10 bins at level 1, two more bins per level.
  • Sanitation XP for every bin, plus a bonus per finished route. Max level is 10.
  • Trash bags to sort at the recycling plant - see Recycling.

Common problems

  • You can't start a route - another truck is still standing in the bay. Wait for it to drive off.
  • A bin doesn't count - it is outside your route circle, or it was already emptied on this route. Find another.
  • "Get to the back of the truck" - stand right behind the truck before throwing the bag in.
  • No route bonus - you handed in early or left the truck away from the depot. Bring the truck back and finish the route.
  • Can't join a crew - you can only join before the first bin is emptied. Ask the leader to start a fresh route.
  • The route ended for everyone - the crew leader quit or left the city.

A bin you empty on a route is fresh again, so anyone can search it straight away - and anything someone had hidden in it is thrown away.
