Your First Day

Your first hour in Night City - first spawn, what you start with, learning the screen and earning your first money.

Welcome to Night City RP! This guide takes you from your first spawn to your first paycheck. Keep Keybinds & Controls open in another tab - it lists every key you will need.

Night City is a serious roleplay server: stay in character, value your life and treat other players with respect. Read Roleplay Rules before you start - the short version is also in the city under ESC → Rules.

Before you begin

Nothing - every new character starts here. You only need to have joined the city (How to Join) and made a character (Character Creation).

Your first spawn

  1. After you finish your look in the appearance editor, you appear once at the city's welcome point. Nobody else is visible while you make your look.
  2. The city fades in around you.
  3. You are given a starter apartment at Tinsel Towers straight away - watch for the notification and the home blip on the map. You are not sent inside it. See apartments.
  4. From your next login on, the spawn picker opens every time - see Spawning.

Learn the screen

  1. Look bottom left: street and postal above the minimap, your status icons (health, hunger, thirst...) below it. See The HUD.
  2. Look top right: your server ID, players online, job, cash and bank.
  3. Press TAB for your inventory (inventory) and M for your phone (phone).
  4. Press T to chat (chat), F1 for the radial menu and F3 for emotes (Emotes).
  5. Press ESC for the Night City menu: map, store, Redeem, settings, rules, wiki and Discord. See Pause Menu.
  6. Press P for the map and type /postal 123 to set a GPS route to a postal. See Map & Postals.

Your first hour

  1. Eat and drink. Hunger and thirst drop over time - buy food and water at any 24/7 store.
  2. Check your apartment. It has a stash and a wardrobe - apartments.
  3. Get a driving licence at the DMV so you can drive legally - DMV & Driving Tests.
  4. Pick up a job to earn your first money - Your First Job.
  5. Get a radio if you join a business, gang or emergency service - radio.

Making money early

There is no job list at City Hall. Work in Night City is either a civilian job you start yourself or a job at a player-run business.

Dumpster diving costs nothing and is the fastest way to get a few dollars and useful items on your first night. Sell what you don't need and save up for a pickaxe or a detector.

Businesses (gyms, clubs, the DMV, mechanic shops, clothing stores, pharmacies...) are owned by players who hire staff. Ask around in character, check the ads, or apply on the website - see Your First Job.

You do not start with a driving licence. Get one at the DMV - see DMV & Driving Tests.

Common problems

  • My clothes are invisible or wrong - type /refreshskin in chat.
  • The HUD frame doesn't line up with my minimap - type /hudframe and nudge it with the arrow keys. See The HUD.
  • A key does nothing - most keys can be changed in ESC → Settings → Key Bindings → FiveM. Check you haven't bound two actions to the same key.
  • I'm stuck or lost - type /report to reach staff in the city. See reporting-bugs.
