Inventing Your Own Drugs
Once you know a recipe, you can make it yours. At a hidden formula desk you add up to three additives to a recipe you know, give the result a name and a symbol, and test it. Pass the test and your invention exists: it has its own name and its own printed picture in everyone's inventory, and it hits differently from the plain version.
You can keep a handful of inventions going at once. Retire one to make room for a new one.
Before you begin
- A recipe you already know whose product is a drug.
- At least one additive in your pockets (see below).
- Access to a formula desk - free, or through the gang that holds it (see Drug Labs & Recipes).
How it works
- Press E at a formula desk and pick Invent a new drug.
- Pick the recipe to build on, then up to three additives.
- Type a name (made-up only) and pick a symbol. The symbol and the colour of your dye are printed on the product.
- Play the test batch. It is harder than the normal cook, and it uses up one of each additive whether it works or not.
- Done: you know the invention and can make it at the usual station for that recipe. Each batch also needs one of each additive.
Additives
| Kind | What it does | Where to find it |
|---|---|---|
| Dyes | Colour the product - buyers pay a little more for a good look | Dye plants out in the wild |
| Flavours | A smoother, longer high and a softer comedown | Wild plants, some rare |
| Boosters | Stronger, with extra effects - and less room before an overdose | Rare wild plants, toxic mushrooms |
| Cuts | More product per batch, less pure | Baking soda, sugar, pill binder |
See Foraging & Herbal Remedies for the plants.
Sharing it
Only the inventor can copy the recipe, at a formula desk, onto a blank notebook page (24/7 stores). Every copy shows who invented it. Sell copies, give them to your crew, or keep the secret.
Retiring it
Retire one of your inventions at the desk to free a slot. Nobody can make it any more and copies of the paper fade. Anything already made keeps working.
Names are checked: no real brands, nothing hateful. Staff rename or retire anything that breaks the rules.
Thanks! Staff will look at it.
