Registration, Insurance & Titles
Insure and register your cars, claim on full cover, change plates, report a theft and sell a car with a title transfer.
Every car you own needs insurance and a registration. You handle both at the DMV clerk in Vespucci Canals (map blip DMV). Press E at "DMV services" and open the Vehicles tab. Every car you own is listed there with its plate, class, papers and buttons.
The same tab is where you change plates, report a stolen car and sell a car to another player. Cars only change owner at the DMV.
Registration and insurance count down in real-life time, even while you are offline. Prices depend on the car's class (see Vehicle Classes), so a supercar costs more to insure than an economy car.
Before you begin
- A car you own.
- Money for the fees. Insurance must come before registration.
- For plate changes: the car parked in a garage (see Garages).
- For a sale: the buyer standing right next to you at the counter.
A new car in three steps
- Clerk → Vehicles. Press Liability or Full cover on the car. You get an
Proof of Insurance.
- Press Register. You get a
Vehicle Registration.
- Done. Both last about a month. Press the same buttons again later to add more time on top.
A newly bought car drives on a temporary plate for 3 days. When you get in, a notice tells you the date you must register by. After that it counts as not registered.
When you sit in your own car, notices warn you if it is unregistered, uninsured, or the registration runs out in the next few days. Police plate readers see the same things.
Insurance cover
| Cover | What it does |
|---|---|
| Liability | The legal minimum. Lets you register and drive legally |
| Full coverage | Everything liability does, plus claims: a lost or destroyed car comes back to your garage for a deductible |
Store cars (bought with Gems) always come fully insured, and their claims are free. Insurance does not transfer when a car is sold.
Making a claim (full coverage only)
- Clerk → Vehicles → Claim on that car.
- Pay the deductible.
- The car is back in your garage, repaired and with a full tank.
You can make one claim per car per day. A successful claim also clears a stolen report.
Plates
- Park the car in a garage first.
- Vanity plate: press Vanity plate, type 2 to 8 letters, numbers or spaces, and press Buy plate. It must not be taken or contain blocked words.
- New plate: a random replacement for a smaller fee. Click the button twice to confirm.
- Press Print papers afterwards to get paperwork with the new plate.
The car keeps its trunk, glovebox, papers and history under the new plate.
PRESTIGE VIP members can claim a Custom Plate Token at the clerk (Vehicles tab → Claim VIP plate token). Handing it in puts a custom plate on one of your cars for free. See VIP Memberships.
Reporting a stolen car
- Clerk → Vehicles → Report stolen. Police plate readers now flag it as STOLEN.
- Got it back? Press Found it to clear the report.
Selling a car (title transfer)
- Seller and buyer both stand at the DMV counter, next to each other.
- Seller: clerk → Vehicles → Sell / transfer title on the car.
- Pick the buyer from the list and set the price. Use 0 to gift it.
- Press Send to buyer.
- Buyer: a window shows price + sales tax + transfer fee. Press Sign and pay within a couple of minutes.
- The car and its keys now belong to the buyer, and the seller gets the price in the bank.
Check the price on the window before you sign. Once you press Sign and pay, the money is gone. The car arrives without insurance, so insure it before you drive off.
Vehicle history report
Clerk → Services → Vehicle history report, type any plate and pay a small fee. You see the model and class, registration, insurance and stolen status, past owners and sales, claims, plate changes and police impounds. Run one before buying a used car.

Common problems
- Register is greyed out - insure the car first. "Show proof of insurance first" means the same.
- "Park it in a garage first" - plate changes need the car stored in a garage.
- "That car is still out in the city" on a claim - claims are for lost or destroyed cars. Find it, or wait until it is gone.
- "That car is impounded - collect it at the depot" - claims don't cover impounds. See Garages.
- "That car is safe in a garage" - you don't need a claim, just take it out.
- The buyer isn't in the list - they must stand right next to you at the counter.
- "Pay off the finance first" - financed cars can't be sold until they are paid off.
Thanks! Staff will look at it.
